Pastor Donna is a native of Dallas, Texas and is the proud in the Lord wife of Bishop J. Lee Slater. She is a mother of four. She has been blessed with daughter Mrs. Valerie Huey (Billy), Twin sons Joshua Lee and Travis Lee (Travis, deceased at the age of 15 in 2005) and youngest adult son Matthew. She is the loving grandmother of 7 year old Mr. Nathaniel Travis Lee, who keeps “Gannie & Papa” on their toes.
Pastor Donna and her husband are co-founders of New Millennium Bible Fellowship (NMBF), located in the Pleasant Grove / Balch Springs / Mesquite, Texas area. The NMBF Praise Center ministry was birth with 11 partners, (5 adults and 6 children) in January, 2001. The vibrant community outreach ministry, known as “The Praise Center”, has grown to a healthy number of partners who share the heart and work of Jesus Christ by going beyond the walls and touching the pulse of the community. Pastor Donna encourages New Millennium-lites to step out of the box and support outreach programs and community events. The Lord of the Harvest has continuously blessed the growth both spiritually and physically. She and Bishop Slater have four spiritual sons each pastoring their own churches. Two sons are in Balch Springs, Texas, one son in Mesquite, Texas and another son in Riviera Beach, Florida.
Pastor Donna has personally received the faithful blessings of the Lord with spiritual growth such as her love for teaching the Word of God. She accepted her calling into the Ministry to preach God’s Holy Word in November of 2005. As a licensed minister, Pastor Donna’s ministry reaches many facets of life as her witnessing is shared with people she meets daily. Her passion for practical application and teaching has opened many doors of opportunities to pour into the lives of those that God has strategically placed on this journey.
Pastor Donna preaches in and out of season. She has been blessed to be keynote speaker of the Baptist General Convention “Church Planters Wives Conference” in Tyler, TX, and various other churches, conferences and revivals near and far. She was appointed devotional leader with Christian Women’s Job Corp., Dallas Campus, and she was a certified lay health promoter with the national recognized GoodNews Health program through UNT Health Science Center, promoting health and wellness both physical and spiritual. She has volunteered with several faith based organizations such as, Dare to Dream, a children’s foundation; Convoy of Hope, a national evangelism food sharing program; local supervisor for the Billy Graham World Evangelism; and served on the board of LUV-Living Unto Victory Helping Hands, a women’s shelter.
Pastor Donna has been recognized as Volunteer of the Year with her local HeadStart National Preschool Education Program, PTA President of Dallas ISD Gilbert Cuellar Elementary School and Secretary of the Weed and Seed in Southeast Dallas, a National Crime Prevention initiative of the US government. She is the Community Liaison for the Dallas Cancer Disparities Community Coalition – Breast Cancer Health Education Program and has served as Board Chair for the Parkland Southeast Dallas Health Center Advisory Board.
Pastor Donna is currently serving a second term as a board member of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. She was appointed by City of Dallas Councilmember Rickey D. Callahan to proudly represent District 5. She is also one of four Board Advisors for the BMW- Better Me Within program by way of the University of North Texas Health and Science Center, a program geared toward the fight of obesity in African American Women through eating and lifestyle changes with spiritual encouragements. This program has given her the opportunity to co-author a curriculum and receive acknowledgements on the same matter for an article written to be submitted to the Journal of the American Medical Association, JAMA.
Pastor Donna has written a leadership manual which has been an inspiration to churches across Texas and she continues to train leaders on a regular basis with her husband. She has a self-authored collection of bible study lessons such as, “Trusting the Never-Changing”, “Living a Godly Life”, “Don’t Get in Trouble” and “Replacing the Old with the New” which are taught weekly to empower women of God through His Living Word. She has also provided an annual conference for the past 11 years titled, “Spiritual Strip Down – Face to Face with God.”
Pastor Donna has co-hosted with her husband Lynk 2 Lyfe a live television broadcast, which aired every Saturday for over 3 years on channel 47.2 and through the nmbfchurch.org worldwide link.
God blessed Pastor Donna to be honored by the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., T. Mathis-Hawkins Section, as recipient of the “First Lady: Extending the Legacy Woman to Woman” award.
Pastor Donna loves the Word of God, she trust the Word of God and she tries her very best to live the Word of God! She feels honored and truly blessed to be on this journey God has purposed for her.
Through all of the talents and gifts that the Lord has poured into Pastor Donna, she knows the best of her life is her walk with Christ; living life with humility and transparency and accepting Him as her Lord AND Savior. Her goal is to hear Him say… “Well done thy good and faithful servant”.
