BISHOP DR. J. LEE SLATER

Bishop Dr. J. Lee Slater, a New Orleans native and Tulane University graduate,
moved to Dallas after a tryout with the Dallas Cowboys. He married Donna, his
Texas love; they have been married for 36 years and have four children: Valerie,
Joshua Lee, Travis Lee (deceased March 8, 2005), and Matthew Lee, along with
nine grandchildren. Bishop Slater and Pastor Donna founded New Millennium
Bible Fellowship (NMBF) in Pleasant Grove with 11 members (5 adults and 6
children) in 2001. The church has since grown significantly.

The vision of NMBF Praise Center is, “Helping the Hopeless, Providing Healing,
Peace and True Praise!”

NMBF PC is intensely involved in community outreach ministry as it is a calling and passion of Bishop
Slater for God’s people.

Bishop Slater is a dynamic preacher and teacher. He is currently completing his master’s degree in
Christian Leadership at Dallas Baptist University and has earned various certifications in Church
Leadership, Old Testament History, and New Testament History from Southern Bible Institute,
Tyndale Theological Seminary, and J. Lee Foster School of Biblical Studies. Additionally, he received
board certification in individual, family, marriage, and grief counseling from the Thereupon Institute
of Louisiana.

Together with Pastor Donna, Bishop Slater has co-authored and presented leadership training that
has inspired numerous churches across Texas. Furthermore, he co-authored a curriculum for the
BMW - Better Me Within program through the University of North Texas Health and Science Center,
aimed at addressing obesity in African American women. This opportunity allowed him to present on
a panel during the Texas Public Health Association (TPHA) Conference. Bishop Slater has also co-
authored articles published in Elsevier and the American Journal of Health Promotion as of August 20,
2020.

Bishop J. Lee Slater serves and stays active Locally and Nationally.

Community Activist for Justice and Peace – Traveled to small towns to picket court houses or

state capitols against injustices rulings against black people. ( Shaquanda Cotton, 14 year old, is
Sentenced in Texas to 7 Years) and The Jena Six case sparked protests by people who
considered the arrests and subsequent charges, initially attempted second-degree murder, as
excessive and racially discriminatory.)

Belief Therapist – Board Certified by The Therapon Institute and University, Louisiana. The

word "therapon" is the noun form of the Greek verb "therapeuo" We derive our English word
"therapy" from "therapeuo" It is translated "cure" and "heal" several times in the Gospels.
Therapon is translated "servant" in Hebrews 3:5.

Bishop Slater and Pastor Donna have nine spiritual mentees among Texas, Arkansas, and South Africa.
Bishop Slater also mentors many individuals personally. When asked about his greatest
accomplishment, Bishop J. Lee Slater says, "I am born again through Christ Jesus and servant of
Highest GOD!"
